JBP  have just finished our first coastal risk assessment, supporting EvoCoast (http://www.evocoast.com.au/) in Western Australia.  The project considered different approaches for coastal risk assessments, comparing approaches from the USACE Coastal Engineering Manual, the UK Condition Assessment Manual (CAM), and theh JBP AssetCoast system (http://www.assetcoast.com/).

We found each method to have specific advantages that could be combined to offer an advanced approach for Australian coastal defences.  This integration allowed us to consider not only present-day risks but also project these into the future through deterioration estimates to allow future planning.

The study:

  • Calculated present day condition and risks across seawalls, revetments and groynes.

  • Projection of risks through future time epochs.

  • Identification of ideal upgrade timeframes to support infrastructure investment planning.
