We currently have the following vacancies:

We have a new opportunity for a Senior Flood Modeller

This role would suit someone with over 5 years’ experience in hydraulic modelling, that is now looking to work on a wider range of flood risk management projects involving management plans, engineering designs and new flood-response technology.  Whilst demonstrated experience as a hydrulic modeller is a requirement for the position, it is expected that you would develop into a leadership position across our business.

Recent work: Over the last month we have delivered flood studies in Far North Queensland, modelled storm tides in NSW estuaries, we ran three operational flood forecasting systems during the Twos-day Floods, and we are now analysing 300 gauges using python and R Studio to determine reurn periods and create an event footprint (targeting 5m resolution between Lismore to Gympie). If this gets your interest this role may be for you.

About us: There are really only three things you need to know about JBP that will shape the work you do.  First, we primarily work for government agencies - with around 90% of our projects delivered for either international bodies, state-level agencies or Councils.  Second, our business is founded on new technology, innovation and R&D, and as an employee-owned business all our profits are channelled back into research and employee profit-share.  We also support the JBA Trust, an independent charity that supports research in flood risk and resilience. Third, we have a clear focus on extreme weather both in Australia and Internationally.  We are a part of the JBA group - an international team of JBA Consulting (UK), JBA Risk (UK, Singapore and USA), and JBA Consult (Europe). As a member of the JBA Group you will be working alongside over 600 people specialising in floodplain management, coastal management, engineering and risk management globally.

The successful applicant will be based in Australia, ideally in our head Brisbane however other offices or remote working would be considered in QLD, NSW or South Australia.  You will need to work on a range of Australia and international projects.  We expect the following minimum qualifications and experience:
•    A love for technical problem solving, particularly including flood, coastal, estuarine and fluvial processes.
•    Demonstrated experience in flood modelling packages, e.g. TUFLOW, HECRAS, URBS, XPRAFTS
•    Five years’ plus experience in hydrological and hydraulic modelling
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills
•    Relevant engineering qualification
•    Be a permanent Australian resident or hold an Australian working visa

Desirable skills/experience
•    Professional standing such as RPEQ and/or CPEng would be highly desirable

Employment Package
A competitive salary commensurate with experience is available, together with a staff benefits package.
JBP has a professional development programme provides the opportunity to enhance and update technical and management skills throughout your career. Each member of staff is allocated a personal annual training budget.
